Pace Calculator
Calculate your running or walking pace from distance and time, and estimate your speed and finish time for a selected distance.
Calculate your pace
Enter your distance and finish time to calculate your average pace and speed.
Your result

| Distance | — |
| Finish time | — |
| Pace per kilometer | — |
| Pace per mile | — |
| Average speed | — |
Step-by-step calculation
What does the result mean?
Pace tells you how much time it takes to cover one unit of distance. For running and walking, pace is commonly expressed as minutes per kilometer or minutes per mile.
A lower pace time means you are covering the distance faster. For example, 5:00 min/km is faster than 6:00 min/km.
Average speed describes the same performance from the opposite perspective and is normally expressed in kilometers per hour or miles per hour.
How is pace calculated?
Pace is calculated by dividing the total time by the total distance.
The calculator converts your entered time into seconds and your distance into kilometers and miles. It then calculates both pace values and average speed.
Pace calculator example
Suppose you run 5 kilometers in 28 minutes and 30 seconds.
Total time = 1,710 seconds
Pace = 1,710 ÷ 5
Pace = 342 seconds per kilometer
Pace = 5 minutes 42 seconds per kilometer
Your average pace would therefore be approximately 5:42 min/km.
Formula used
Speed = distance ÷ total time
Pace is displayed as minutes and seconds per kilometer and per mile. Speed is displayed as kilometers per hour and miles per hour.
