Your FLAMES Result
Step-by-Step Calculation
What Is the FLAMES Calculator?
FLAMES is a classic name-matching game used for fun and entertainment. The six letters represent Friends, Love, Affection, Marriage, Enemy and Sister in the traditional version.
The FreeCalz FLAMES Calculator turns that familiar paper-and-pencil game into an interactive online calculator. It uses a deterministic implementation of the traditional matching and elimination process, so the same two names produce the same result.
What Does FLAMES Stand For?
| Letter | Category | Fun interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| F | Friends | A playful friendship result. |
| L | Love | A playful love-themed result. |
| A | Affection | A playful affection result. |
| M | Marriage | A playful marriage-themed result. |
| E | Enemy | A playful “opposites” result. |
| S | Sister | The traditional sister/family-style category. |
These labels are part of the game and are not measurements of a real relationship.
How Does the FLAMES Calculator Work?
Step 1: Normalize both names
The calculator converts the names to lowercase and removes spaces, punctuation and other non-letter characters. This prevents capitalization or formatting from changing the basic letter-matching process.
Step 2: Match common letters
Each occurrence of a letter in one name is matched against one occurrence of the same letter in the other name. When a pair is matched, both occurrences are removed from the unmatched-letter count.
Step 3: Count unmatched letters
The remaining letters from both names are counted. This count becomes the number used in the FLAMES elimination process.
Step 4: Eliminate FLAMES letters
The six letters in FLAMES are arranged in a circle. Starting from the current position, the count is used to remove one letter at a time. Counting continues around the remaining letters until only one letter remains.
Unmatched count = unmatched letters in Name 1 + unmatched letters in Name 2
FLAMES result = final letter remaining after circular elimination using the unmatched countWorked FLAMES Example
Example: Suppose two names are entered into the calculator.
Step 1: Both names are normalized.
Step 2: Matching letter pairs are removed from both names.
Step 3: The remaining letters are counted.
Step 4: That count is applied to the FLAMES elimination circle until one letter remains.
The calculator displays the actual intermediate values for your names, so you do not need to perform the matching manually.
Why Can FLAMES Results Change When Names Change?
FLAMES is based on the letters in the names. Adding or removing a middle name, surname, nickname or spelling variation can change the matching letters and therefore change the final elimination count.
For example, entering a short first name and entering the same person’s full legal name are different inputs. The calculator treats them as different name strings.
Can FLAMES Predict Love or Marriage?
No. FLAMES is a game, not a scientific relationship assessment. A result such as Love or Marriage does not demonstrate that two people are romantically compatible, and an Enemy or Sister result does not indicate a real relationship problem.
Real relationships involve communication, trust, respect, shared values, life circumstances and many other factors that a letter-counting game cannot measure.
