What Is a Military Power Comparison Calculator?
The FreeCalz Military Power Comparison Calculator is an educational tool for comparing publicly available indicators associated with conventional military capability. It lets users select countries and compare their 2026 Global Firepower rank and PowerIndex, together with 2025 SIPRI military expenditure where the verified data is available.
The calculator is not a forecast. Military capability is multidimensional and cannot be fully represented by a single ranking, budget figure or equipment count.
How Does the Calculator Work?
1. Select countries
Choose two, three or four countries. All 145 countries in the current Global Firepower 2026 review are available in the selection lists.
2. Compare the Global Firepower indicators
FreeCalz displays the 2026 Global Firepower rank and PowerIndex. Global Firepower says its 2026 formula uses more than 60 factors covering military units, finances, logistics, geography and other categories.
3. Compare military expenditure
Where available in the verified FreeCalz dataset, the calculator shows SIPRI’s 2025 military expenditure in current US dollars. SIPRI’s database is based on open sources and is updated annually.
4. Check the source and data year
Every major indicator is labelled with its source and year. If a figure is unavailable, FreeCalz does not invent a replacement value.
Understanding the PowerIndex
Global Firepower’s PowerIndex (PwrIndx) is a proprietary composite measure of conventional military capability. Global Firepower states that a lower PowerIndex represents a stronger position within its methodology, with 0.0000 described as a perfect but realistically unattainable score.
Do not treat PowerIndex as a universal measure of military strength. It is a methodology-specific ranking and cannot capture every factor that could influence real-world security or conflict.
Military Expenditure Data
SIPRI’s Military Expenditure Database currently contains country military spending data for 1949–2025. SIPRI states that the database is based on open sources and can be revised when better source information becomes available.
SIPRI also emphasizes that military expenditure is an input measure, not a direct measure of military capability or military security. Therefore, a larger military budget does not automatically mean a higher military ranking.
Data Coverage and Missing Values
The calculator contains all 145 countries in the current Global Firepower 2026 ranking. SIPRI military expenditure is displayed for countries where the 2025 figure is included in the current verified FreeCalz dataset. For other countries, the result shows Not available in current verified dataset rather than estimating a value.
This approach is intentional: public military data can be incomplete, estimated, classified or published using different definitions and reporting schedules.

Educational and Safety Disclaimer
For educational and informational purposes only. This calculator is not intended to encourage, facilitate, glorify or advocate war, violence, armed conflict or military action. It does not identify a winner, recommend military action, assess the legality of an operation, or predict the outcome of a conflict. Public military statistics are incomplete and may include estimates, different definitions or different reporting years. Real-world military capability depends on factors that cannot be fully represented by public statistics, including training, readiness, doctrine, leadership, logistics, intelligence, geography, alliances, technology, morale, industrial capacity and political circumstances. Users should consult the original sources and current official information for authoritative purposes.
