What Is a Concrete Cost Calculator?

A concrete cost calculator estimates the material quantity and approximate cost of concrete for a project. It starts with the dimensions of the concrete element, calculates its volume, applies an optional waste allowance, and multiplies the resulting quantity by the concrete price you enter. Additional costs such as delivery, pumping and labor can then be included.

How to Use the Concrete Cost Calculator

  1. Select metric or imperial measurement units.
  2. Enter length, width and concrete depth or thickness.
  3. Enter a waste allowance if required.
  4. Choose whether your concrete price is per cubic metre or cubic yard.
  5. Enter the concrete material price.
  6. Select your currency.
  7. Add delivery, pump, labor and other costs if applicable.
  8. Click Calculate Concrete Cost.

Concrete Cost Formula

Base Volume = Length × Width × Depth
Waste Quantity = Base Volume × Waste %
Required Concrete = Base Volume × (1 + Waste %)
Material Cost = Required Concrete × Concrete Price per Unit
Total Concrete Cost = Material Cost + Delivery + Pump + Labor + Other Costs

Worked Example

Suppose a slab is 10 m long, 5 m wide and 0.15 m thick. With a 5% allowance:

Base Volume = 10 × 5 × 0.15 = 7.50 m³
Required Concrete = 7.50 × 1.05 = 7.875 m³

If concrete costs $300 per m³:

Material Cost = 7.875 × $300 = $2,362.50

Delivery, pumping, labor and other costs can then be added to obtain the project estimate.

Why Add a Waste Allowance?

The theoretical volume calculated from finished dimensions may not equal the quantity ordered or actually consumed. Spillage, handling losses, uneven surfaces, small variations in dimensions, residual concrete in delivery equipment and site conditions can affect the required quantity. A waste allowance is therefore a planning assumption, not a universal fixed percentage.

Concrete Price per Cubic Metre vs Cubic Yard

Ready-mix concrete is commonly priced by volume. This calculator supports both cubic metres and cubic yards. The calculator converts the calculated quantity to the price unit you select before calculating the material cost.

1 cubic metre ≈ 1.3079506 cubic yards
1 cubic yard ≈ 0.7645549 cubic metres

What Is Included in the Total Cost?

  • Concrete material: the concrete quantity multiplied by the entered unit price.
  • Delivery: ready-mix transport or other delivery charges.
  • Pumping: pump hire or concrete placement equipment.
  • Labor: placing, leveling, finishing or related labor entered by the user.
  • Other: additional project-specific costs.

What Is Not Automatically Included?

Reinforcement steel, formwork, excavation, sub-base, waterproofing, curing compounds, testing, admixtures, taxes, permits, mobilization and other project costs are not automatically included. If you need them in the estimate, enter them in an appropriate additional cost or calculate them separately.

Concrete Slab, Footing, Beam and Pad Estimates

The rectangular volume method is suitable for preliminary estimates of simple rectangular slabs, pads, footings, beams and similar elements. More complex structures with varying thicknesses, openings, slopes, chamfers or irregular geometry should be broken into simpler shapes and calculated separately.

How Concrete Cost Can Change

  • Concrete grade or strength class
  • Aggregate type and availability
  • Supplier location and delivery distance
  • Concrete quantity and minimum-load charges
  • Pump requirements and placement height
  • Admixtures and special mix requirements
  • Site access and waiting time
  • Labor rates and project conditions
  • Taxes and local supplier charges

Accuracy and Practical Use

This calculator is intended for preliminary quantity and cost planning. A supplier quotation or professional quantity takeoff may use different assumptions, minimum delivery quantities, truck capacities, taxes, mix specifications and site charges. For procurement, compare the calculated quantity with the project drawings, specifications and current supplier quotation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the Concrete Cost Calculator calculate?

It calculates rectangular concrete volume, applies an optional waste allowance, estimates concrete material cost and adds delivery, pumping, labor and other costs.

Can I calculate concrete cost in cubic metres?

Yes. Metric dimensions are converted to cubic metres and can be priced per cubic metre.

Can I use feet and inches?

Yes. Select Imperial and enter length and width in feet and depth in inches.

Can I calculate concrete cost per cubic yard?

Yes. Select the cubic-yard price option and enter your local price per yd³.

Does it include concrete waste?

Yes. Enter the waste allowance percentage. The calculator adds it to the theoretical volume.

Does it include labor?

Yes. Enter the labor or pouring cost in the optional cost field.

Does it include concrete pump cost?

Yes. A separate pump cost field is provided.

Does it include delivery?

Yes. Enter delivery or transport cost separately.

Does the currency selector convert exchange rates?

No. It only changes the displayed currency symbol. All entered amounts must already be in the selected currency.

Does the calculator include reinforcement steel?

No. Reinforcement steel is not part of the concrete volume calculation. Calculate reinforcement separately or add its cost as an additional cost.

Can this be used for a concrete slab?

Yes, for a simple rectangular slab. Enter slab length, width and thickness.

Can it be used for footings?

Yes, for simple rectangular footing geometry. Complex stepped or irregular footings should be broken into separate rectangular volumes.

What if my project has different concrete grades?

Calculate each concrete grade separately because unit prices can differ, then combine the material and applicable project costs.

Should I always use a waste allowance?

Use an allowance appropriate to the project and procurement method. The correct allowance depends on geometry, placement method, site conditions and supplier practice.

Can this replace a professional quantity takeoff?

No. It is a preliminary estimating tool. Important quantities should be checked against drawings, specifications and project-specific takeoffs.
