What is a fraction?
A fraction represents a part of a whole and is written using a numerator and a denominator. The numerator is the number above the fraction line, while the denominator is the number below it.
Fractions can be proper, improper, or mixed numbers. A fraction is in simplest form when the numerator and denominator have no common factor greater than 1.
How are fractions calculated?
Adding and subtracting fractions generally requires a common denominator. Multiplication multiplies the numerators and denominators directly. Division is performed by multiplying the first fraction by the reciprocal of the second fraction.
After performing the operation, the result is reduced to its simplest form using the greatest common divisor of the numerator and denominator.
